Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Alyaa Abbas Al-Attar – the respected President of Northern Technical University- and the supervision of Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Fadhil Haddad – the Dean of Medical Technical Institute of Mosul- Women’s Affairs Unit at the Medical Technical Institute of Mosul held a symposium entitled:

(Indoor Plants and the Role of Women in Their Care and Propagation)

The symposium discussed the types of indoor plants, crucial factors influencing their growth, different types and sources of soil and Peat moss, the types of varieties of fertilizers and their proper usage, detailed explanations about aquatic plants (such as Bamboo), and the protective drops against diseases.

It aimed to educate attendees on

  • how to choose suitable plants,

  • care for them effectively,

  • considering factors such as watering, lighting, fertilization, and

  • selecting appropriate indoor locations.

Additionally, it covered plants that can withstand changing conditions without requiring excessive care, such as Zamia.

Recommendations

The symposium emphasized the importance of cultivating plants both indoors and outdoors due to their aesthetic value, as well as their environmental benefits.

It included a practical aspect where participants underwent the process of repotting plants. During this process, they selected appropriate pots, prepared suitable soil, learned about watering and fertilization techniques, and explored the use of plant polish spray and artificial lighting.

At the end, the Dean presented a certificate of appreciation to Mrs. Tayseer Thakir, praying to God for her continued success and progress.
