“The main harm of electronic cigarettes “
Under the patronage of the president of the northern Technical University, professor Dr. Alia Abbas Ali Al-Attar،
Under the supervision of the dean of the Medical Technical Institute/Mosul, assistant professor Dr. Mohammed Fadel Haddad, the University Psychological Counseling Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Pharmacy technologies, organized an awareness seminar entitled
“*Electronic cigarettes.. Risks and health effects*”
Dr. Wael Mounir was present at the seminar, where he discussed in his lecture the concept of electronic cigarettes and their chemical components, the mechanism of their impact on the respiratory system and blood circulation, as well as the psychological and addictive damage caused by their use among the youth category.
The seminar included the following topics:
1. Introduction of electronic cigarettes and the principle of their operation.
2. Comparison of the harms of traditional smoking and electronic smoking.
3. Health and psychological risks caused by nicotine and carcinogens.
4. The role of educational institutions in educating students about the dangers of smoking.
5. Review of the latest scientific studies on the harms of electronic cigarettes.
Objectives of the seminar:
1. Raising the level of health awareness among students about the dangers of e-smoking.
2. Correct misconceptions about e-cigarettes being a safe alternative to smoking.
3. Encourage students to adopt healthy, smoke-free lifestyles.
4. Strengthen the role of psychological counseling in the Prevention of addictive behaviors.
Recommendations:
1. Inclusion of awareness-raising topics against e-smoking in university health programs.
2. Organizing periodic information campaigns in cooperation with the Ministry of Health.
3. Activating the role of students as ambassadors of health awareness in the community.
4. Providing psychological support for people who quit smoking within the university environment.
